We do not have accounts for readers, we do not run analytics or advertising, and we do not sell anything to anyone. You can browse this whole site without telling us who you are.
The browse page can sort listings by how close they are to you. Nothing happens until you press the button — we never ask your browser for your position when the page loads.
If you do press it, your browser gives us a coordinate, and it is rounded to three decimal places (about 110 metres) before it leaves your device. That is plenty to rank a dozen restaurants and is not your building. It is used for that one page request and is never written to our server — no column, no session, no log line. It appears in the page's own address bar so a filtered view stays a link you can share, and at that precision a shared link is a neighbourhood.
If you decline, the site uses the centre of Saskatoon instead and says so on screen. Your refusal is remembered only until you close the tab.
A session cookie is set so the site works, and your light/dark preference and your answer about location are kept in your own browser's storage. Nothing here is used to track you between sites.
We use the Google Places API to check whether the businesses we list are still trading. This happens on our own machine, on a schedule, and never in your browser — nothing about your visit is sent to Google, and no Google Places content is shown to you. From those checks we keep only the Google Place ID of each venue, which Google's terms permit us to store; the answer itself is used to decide whether to list a venue and is then discarded.
Google's handling of that data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into this policy.
The map view loads tiles from OpenStreetMap. Your browser contacts their servers directly to do that, so their privacy policy applies to those requests.
The site has a small private admin area. Accounts there are created by hand — there is no sign-up — and hold an email address and a hashed password.
